Gluon for Micro.blog

A beautiful, nimble and customisable app purposely built for Micro.blog. Now archived. Thank you to all through the years ✌️❤️

Gluon is a highly opinionated, but customisable, cross platform app for Android and iOS for Micro.blog.

If you’d like to find out more, please visit the Gluon website. Or keep scrolling to read the development blog.

With Gluon, you can do the following:

Project posts JSON/RSS Feed...

Another pain point in Gluon when images don’t load for some reason:

Gluon will now also check the status of Micro.blog:

I had a few people request this for Gluon:

Just sent out build 10 for the 2020.4 build of Gluon, on TestFlight. Mainly to do with appearance and some under-the-hood changes that needed doing. Some visual bugs which I’ll get to through the week. Hopefully also fixes an issue on Android (beta soon).

Happy to report that Gluon for Micro.blog works a treat on iOS 14 and iPadOS 14. I was dreading it, but I’m happy ✌️

Guess I broke a few things…

If you’re using Gluon and will be running iOS14 on your “test” devices, and it crashes… well… let me find out first at least!

I have been thinking about Gluon a lot lately. I don’t want to say too much yet, but I am planning a web version for it with some interesting features to complement Micro.blog, which they can totally copy! The features will filter down to Android, iOS and desktops.

A big shoutout to everyone that has bought a Gluon T-shirt, especially my parents! ❤️ I think they obliterated their stock!

Thanks again for everyone that supports Gluon, it really means a lot to me and my family! ✌️

Micro.blog is down at the moment, due to a “Timeout”. Gluon will be affected by this. Will monitor.

Well, in good news… Gluon on Android works perfectly with all the last minute changes I added for iOS. Can’t get it to build a store version though, so I’ll tackle that tomorrow.

Where was I? Oh yeah… getting Gluon ready for 2020.4 on ANDROID. 00:22 AM… hmmm.

Tomorrow I’ll try and release Gluon 2020.4 for Android. Needs a bit more testing. iOS can wait for now… dust has to settle a bit first.

So, what are the bets that Gluon will get rejected by that fruit company again? It’s pretty much a given at this stage. I linked to the documentation page, which includes the word “cross platform”, hints at Android and registering with Micro.blog. Or perhaps even an older issue?

I’ll try and get version 2020.4 of Gluon out this week. I didn’t manage everything, but wanted to get it out before WWDC. Rather have a small update anyway!
